As you may know, Plowshare Peace Center, the Tree of Life Church and the Roanoke Quakers began organizing the Progressive Potlucks in spring 2019. These were opportunities for activists in southwestern Virginia to gather and talk. We had a potluck; a main speaker for 15 minutes; a collection taken up for the main speaker; and speakers who could share about their activism or activist group for five minutes each. It was a great success! We were having as many as 50 people at the events. Unfortunately, after a year, the potlucks were halted due to the pandemic.
We have been hoping to resume the Progressive Potlucks for some time. We are, though, still concerned about the pandemic. As an experiment, we have decided to resume the potlucks online through Zoom. We will skip the potluck. We will however, still present a main speaker. Attendees can sign up in the Chat to speak about their projects. If we have enough attendees, we can do break out rooms.
Andrea Miller will be the main speaker. She is the is Founder of the Center for Common Ground that has been working to fight voter suppression and empower underserved communities since 2018.
The Progressive Potlucks will resume on Sunday, December 4 at 7 PM, through Zoom. To avoid trolls, we request that you contact us for the Zoom link. Please help us start up the potlucks again! There is power in community!
