Plowshare members frequently visit elected officials to inform them of our positions on a variety of issues.
We encourage representatives to cast their vote for things that maintain peace, open communications, stop oppressions and injustices, and promote environmental and economic sustainability.
This photo is from an older lobbying visit (8/20215), but it shows very well what we do… Several Plowshare Peace Center activists (Russell Potter, Joan Wages, Jim Bier, Michael Bentley, and Gene Edmunds) met with Isaac Sarver, aide to Senator Mark Warner. We urged Sen. Warner to vote to support the Iran Nuclear Accord, to end subsidies to fossil fuel industries and support the Clean Energy Plan, to allow Americans to travel freely to Cuba and to end the Cuban blockade.
You're invited to join us. The Roanoke area Plowshare group is a non-profit, volunteer organization with a long tradition of activism. For almost 50 years, people young and old, have worked to improve their neighborhoods, schools, and local government. In addition, we've stood up for many political and social causes that affect our national and international affairs. We are secular, not sectarian, and we try to make the world a little better place.
