Plowshare has been working hard to have our local public radio station (WVTF-FM) carry the Democracy Now program. This independent news broadcast is now carried on over 1,000 stations, including more than 100 United States public radio stations.
Many citizens don’t realize how mainstream media really works… In the past 40 years, hundreds of major U.S. media companies have been corporately merged into just six conglomerates. The major stockholders of these behemoths are all billionaires, so they are always able to vote their majority shares to ensure their sycophants are in charge.
The resulting board then steers the news presentations to subtly support whatever makes the owners richer and more powerful – at the expense of humanity.
